The Really: The endorsement of Barack Obama by the wife of Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska is a profile in courage?
Today Lilibet Hagel will endorse Barack Obama for President in Virginia. She will be joined by Susan Eisenhower, the granddaughter of the General and President who uttered the prophetic phrase "military industrial complex"; a phrase which may be at the root of our current problems.
But is this endorsement a profile in courage or the opening salvo of the 2012 election? Sen. Hagel has long had aspirations to run for President and was even talked about as a possible VP candidate for Obama, though he is a Republican. But Hagel is less of a Bush Republican and more of really conservative Democrat. Are we seeing the seeds of a new Republican party wrested away from the right-wing or simply the conscience of a woman who goes her own way when making her voting decisions?
